We get you.

MacKenzie Art Gallery is a cultural corner stone in the City of Regina, a place where people immerse themselves in new and exciting exhibitions and events, discover exciting collections and immerse yourself in learning more about artists, their works and their craft.

MacKenzie Art Gallery isn’t resting on their laurels- they are evolving into a space that draws the community closer with new spaces, unique collections and a variety of offerings and amenities. Its fresh new look and collaborative spaces will bring new customers as well as continue to delight your core community.

What you told us.

From what you've told us, MacKenzie is at a bit of a crossroads. The relationship that the Art Gallery had with the University of Regina has come to an end, meaning in some instances, some of the shared resources you had in place have also concluded. Operational areas, and in particular the HR and Payroll functions have now become an accountability for your organization.

With a small team of approximately 25 full-time staff and 25 part time staff in a unionized environment, the MacKenzie can’t justify the costs associated with an on-site Human Resource Specialist, but there is definitely a need for support in the area. Members of the senior team have done their best to manage the overall support for HR related activities, but it can create an additional burden and some issues may stretch beyond their core skill set.

At this stage, the Gallery has a lot of practices and processes in place that are necessary for proper HR operations, but some areas are in a current unknown state. The unionized nature makes the need for appropriate HR support and consultation a need to ensure that collectively bargained people processes and practices are in place, that employee issues are addressed, and your staff feel valued and are engaged in their workplace.

There are also pressing issues with organizational design, one area in particular that is seeing a key individual leave the organization shortly, but there are also feelings that perhaps organizational decision making and overall flow of process is not as efficient and effective as it could be.

We can help with that.

We see a number of potential opportunities to work with you and your people at MacKenzie Art Gallery, helping you develop a solid people plan that can be easily implemented today, and can grow with you as MacKenzie continues to evolve through new and exciting initiatives.

At first blush, we can see potential for us to work together to identify a number of potential opportunities for you- we can provide you with some foundational pieces of a solid HR process, including areas of organizational design, policy review and development, employee performance reviews, 360 feedback processes, psychometric assessments, employee engagement, diversity attraction and recruitment.

And finally; we can help better understand, and even run, the strategic HR programs as well as day to day people issues. We would start this process with an evaluation of what is currently in place so we can provide you with a clearer understanding of what your resource burn currently is on these practices, and where it is that you may want to see a strengthening of practices within your HR function, for a fraction of the cost of an HR resource.

About us.

We're a small boutique leadership firm. You're welcome! ;-)

Our belief is that there is no single solution or model that can be used to solve every issue. One size does not fit all; one size fits one.

We leverage the strengths of each of our partners to work with our clients using small teams that allow our approach to be extremely adaptive and customizable to the needs of the people we are seeking to serve. We involve our clients as partners in the process from day one, helping us truly understand their business. We believe in an individualized, person-centered approach that puts people and their individual needs in the middle of our design, and helps transform our client’s organization.

“working with a boutique local firm like the guys at Affective Consulting offered better personal customer service, easy accessibility and an opportunity to meet and know the people behind the service.”

— Janson Anderson, Chief Executive Officer - Harbour Landing Village

Our design approach includes a strong focus on follow-up. We believe that one of the greatest areas where consultants fall down is the traditional practice of moving on before the desired outcome has been achieved. The boutique approach we have taken, is to build-in a small amount of post-development consulting time, so that we can ensure that what we have intended to deliver hits the mark and stays on track.

Through the use of this approach, we begin to establish organizational trust, understanding and the belief that everyone truly matters within the design of the business.

Our Recommended Initial Approach.

Based on our conversations yesterday, we had agreed that the best way forward for the immediate future would be to explore an initial working arrangement that would deliver on two key areas - an initial HR Audit of MacKenzie Art Gallery, and some support on evaluating the current design and structure of a key area of the business, comprising of 5 current roles.

We believe that both of these activities could be reviewed and evaluated by our team in parallel, meeting your tight timelines for solutions and allowing you to move quickly, in particular with the design of your team as you look to onboard a new resource for your team.

We are pleased to offer you the following quote for your consideration as a solution to your team's needs. We understand that budgetary restraints can also play a significant part in employee and team development planning, and have tried to keep our offering as competitive as possible.

All of our contracts include 5 hours of consulting services at no charge to the client, which we traditionally use to conduct an initial consult and post session follow up to ensure that we have achieved the desired outcome with our partners.

PEOPLE PLAN EVALUATION                                                                                                                                                 $5,500+GST

Affective Consulting Partners will work with MacKenzie Art Gallery team members responsible for the Gallery’s people processes and practices to complete a deep dive into what practices and policies exist within the organization, gaining a solid understanding of what’s in place, and where gaps in practices may exist.

Between our partners and your team, we will review big picture strategies, programs and activities and the systems that are supporting them to determine strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that exist for the current state as well as in the future. From soup to nuts, we'll cover all the bases and gain a greater understanding of what you have, and what you need.

Upon the completion of our evaluation, we will hand deliver a written report outlining our findings and what we feel may be the best approach to move MacKenzie Art Gallery forward for the future. We will also include how we may be able to help get you there through a fractional HR engagement or On-Demand offering.

Estimated time of completion: Depending on your timelines and availability, we may be able to complete this evaluation as early as Monday, December 17th.

Our team will work with you to gain a greater understanding of the role that has been recently vacated and the reporting and collaboration structure that exists within the team (both current and desired future state) to establish recommendations and different approaches to making this group working efficiently and effectively.

Elements of this engagement would include an initial consultation, evaluation of potential team design and pro’s and con’s to proposed options, possible creation of new job descriptions for key roles, should they require changes, as well as role evaluation, salary scales (both internal as well as evaluation against current marketplace) and potential recommendations for candidate attraction, recruitment and assessment, if necessary.

Estimated time of completion: Depending on your timelines and availability, we may be able to complete this evaluation as early as Monday, December 17th.
